“I originally chose an Apprenticeship after realising that I didn’t want to carry on at college halfway through my A2’s. Starting an Apprenticeship is daunting at first, I was 18, shy, insecure and under confident being thrown into a big office within a large organisation. I quickly realised that the Apprentice Employment Agency, Harrogate College and my host employer, Leeds City Council, were all there to help and offer advice and guidance, not only with my job role/work but to bring you on as a person.
I would recommend an Apprenticeship as an avenue to any young person as it allows you to learn and gain a qualification while you are earning. It also matures you as a person, teaching you essential life skills which are not taught at school. More importantly, it gets on the first rung on the employment ladder at a young age to be in a position to progress and develop your career.
I believe it is better than going through two years at college, four years at university, to then have to start looking for a job with no real working experience and a mass of debt!
I have recently gained full-time employment with Leeds City Council and look forward to an exciting career, thanks to everyone who supported me through my journey.”
