Daily Stress-Busting Tips for Apprentices

The life of an apprentice is packed full of learning opportunities and new experiences, but with that comes a fair share of stress. There’s a lot to juggle with new responsibilities, learning new skills and making a good impression, all of which can take a toll on your mental wellbeing. We’ve compiled some daily stress-busting tips to help you eliminate common stressors in the workplace and allow you to excel in your apprenticeship.

Establish a Morning Routine

It’s important to start the day on the right foot as this can set the tone for the rest of your day. Revamp your morning routine with these elements:

  • Mindful breathing exercises: Start the day with the 4-7-8 breathing technique to centre yourself. This involves breathing in for 4 seconds, holding the breath for 7 seconds, and exhaling for 8 seconds.
  • Healthy breakfast: Don’t skip the most important meal of the day! A nutritious breakfast can kickstart your day by fuelling your body and mind.
  • Plan your day: Take a few minutes to outline your tasks and priorities for the day ahead.

Take Regular Breaks

Two people walking togetherIt’s easy to get tangled up in the busy working week but it’s important to take breaks to allow you to recharge and refocus. Here are some quick stress-relief breaks to consider:

  • Go for a short walk: Getting some fresh air helps to clear the mind and helps give your legs a stretch too!
  • Hydration Break: Make sure to drink enough fluids throughout the day. Dehydration can negatively impact focus so, treat yourself to a glass of water or a cup of tea to recharge and refresh you.
  • Socialise: Don’t keep your head buried in your work all day. Taking time to connect with your colleagues can help break up the day and allow you to recharge.

Cultivate a Positive Mindset

How you perceive and handle stress comes down to the state of your mindset. Here are some pointers on how you can cultivate a positive mindset:

  • Practice gratitude: Take time to appreciate the good things in your life, no matter how small.
  • Challenge negative thoughts: Not everything is doom and gloom! When negative thoughts arise, challenge them with positive affirmations.
  • Celebrate small wins: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how minor they may seem. You might surprise yourself with how much you achieve in a day!

Stay Active

  • Incorporate exercise into your routine: Whether it’s a few press-ups in the office or a jog on your lunch break, it’s important to find ways to move your body.
  • Desk stretches: If you work in an office, don’t be glued to your desk all day. Challenge the effects of sitting for long periods by incorporating stretches into your day.
  • Take the stairs: Something as simple as opting to take the stairs instead of using a lift can sneak some extra movement into your routine.

Unplug and Unwind

Technology surrounds us in this day and age however, we must disconnect from time to time to give our minds a break. Here are some ways to unplug after a long day:

  • Digital detox: Set aside designated times to disconnect from your devices and enjoy some screen-free time.
  • Engage in a hobby: Explore activities away from a screen. Whether it’s reading, painting or playing sports, engage in something that brings you joy and allows you to unwind.
  • Establish a bedtime routine: Wind down before bed with a calming routine that avoids screentime to promote quality and restful sleep.

Conclusion

During your apprenticeship, it’s important to prioritize your mental well-being and incorporate stress-relieving practices into your daily routine. To achieve this, establish a morning routine, take regular breaks, cultivate a positive mindset, stay active, and unplug when necessary. Remember that it’s okay to prioritise self-care and make your mental health a priority. By doing so, you will navigate your apprenticeship stress-free!
